At Siempre Unidos, we are free to be ourselves, to laugh, to cry, even to dance.

Why Honduras

Honduras, where one out of every 50 persons lives with HIV, has the highest rate of infection of any Spanish speaking country. Prevalence is significantly higher among risk groups such as commercial sex workers (9.7%) and the Garifuna population in Roatan (8.4%). Now is the time to try to stem this epidemic through effective treatment, screening, prevention and community education.

Honduras is one of the 3 or 4 poorest countries in the Americas. 63% of Hondurans live below the poverty line and over 30% live in extreme poverty (World Bank). Honduras is small with a population of approximately 7.5 million persons. A smaller organization like ours can have a big input and indeed the Government of Honduras welcomes our involvement.

The Episcopal Diocese of Honduras provides great commitment and leadership for reducing the HIV epidemic in Honduras and is completely fiscally transparent. Siempre Unidos and the Diocese have a long history of working with government, lay and religious partners, both local and international, to help stem this epidemic. HIV/AIDS knows no boundaries!
