Medical Care

Beginning in February 2003, Siempre Unidos was one of the earliest providers of effective, affordable anti-retroviral treatment in Honduras. Our three clinics are open 6 days per week. Dedicated Honduran physicians and nurses see patients while other staff and patients share free hot meals and provide support for each other. Our programs adhere to all the Honduran government protocols for treating HIV. The Honduran government provides most of the antiretroviral medications and discounted laboratory tests. A US HIV specialist visits every few months to evaluate especially complicated patients with our Honduran staff. A few of our patients who do not respond to locally available treatment, receive life-saving medications from RAMP, a program that recycles unopened, unexpired antiretroviral medicines in the US. We are very grateful to the Abbott Fund that supports the salaries of our Honduran doctors and nurses.
