The violence in Honduras has caused backlash from right-wing extrajudicial groups who target marginalized individuals. Sex workers and the LGBT community have suffered greatly, and Siempre Unidos staff has been threatened and harassed. Our outreach teams are compiling reports on murders and assaults and publicizing them on a website with the goal of bringing awareness to the violence.
We celebrate “Solidarity Month” to bring attention to the rights of marginalized groups. For example, the staff organizes marches in solidarity with the LGBT community and commercial sex workers.
Lawyers who are also our members provide pro bono legal representation to people experiencing violence, mistreatment, and discrimination due to their HIV status and/or sexuality. The staff assists in monitoring these cases.
